built at the end of the seventeenth century to defend the seafaring district and the surrounding areas. The current tower is square shaped and contains two tanks to collect rainwater and the supporting wall structure is over two metres thick.
Land Tower:
Built as a watchtower to monitor and defend Tonnara.
Baronessa Castle:
Built between the end of the XI and start of the XII centuries as a medieval fort and then for residential use.
Carburangeli Caves:
Important site of speleological, paleontological and biologic interest. They extend in the sub-soil for about 400 metres in a horizontal direction.
Bio Park:
Exhibition area immersed in greenery with 20 reproductions of actual sized dinosaurs. Full of tropical plants and also hosts a zoo.
Daily fish market:
Every morning fishermen meet on the quay in the small port of IsoladelleFemmine, to sell their catch directly from their boats and continue an age-old ritual.
Typical restaurants in the area famous for their sea-based specialities: seafood, Gunard, Swordfish, Tuna.
Bakeries and ice-cream parlours famous for their production of ricotta based desserts.
